The last month has seen great headway on our little park. Broniszeski Carpentry, a local firm, has completed the lovely picnic pavilion, and R&J Machine from the Peterborough area have installed the viewing deck. The deck is still cordoned off as there are a couple of modifications still to come before we can open it to the public. Our opening is planned for Thursday, August 30 at 2:00 PM, and we plan to have everything in place by then, including our benches and tables AND the garden space directly behind the pavilion. All are invited to celebrate this successful project. This is where some of you may be able to help. Way back when all of this was in the planning stages, a number of you folks kindly gave your names as interested in volunteering, especially in the gardening. We plan to keep it simple, and have the thought of (once the area is weeded and the top soil spread out) buying decorative tall grasses to provide a nice backdrop and shield the view of the parking area. Once planted, we will spread a generous coating of mulch to protect the planting and keep the weeds at bay. A preliminary meeting is considered, on site, for Monday evening, August 20, 2018 at 7:00 PM. If you can help please contact me – but note, I will be away from the 16th through the 20th (at Jazz Camp:) Can't meet on Monday evening, but still interested? No problem! You can get started at any time by simply hopping down to the site and givin' 'er to those weeds – you will need your own tools, though. At the meeting we will discuss what else we can consider to spruce up the area.

In recognition of the enthusiastic community support for the park project SBCC is offering an opportunity for residents to contribute in a long lasting manner. If you would like to pay tribute (honour) to your family, spouse, friend, parents etc you may purchase a piece of park furniture (see below) on which a plaque would be installed dedicated to the person/group of your choice.
By donating a piece of park equipment, you and your family can be part of this park for generations to come. Consider teaming up with family or community members to make this lasting tribute. The furniture we chose is very durable and nice too! Benches are $1098.00 + HST, and tables are $1123.53 + HST for regular, $1085.61 + HST for wheelchair accessible. Donors will also get a charitable receipt. SBCC will handle the plaque, based on donor input. If you or your family are interested in donating please contact Mary Moore at [email protected], or 613-294-0373 for further information. We are seeing progress on Spencerville Riverside Park!
